[Whisky Concept]
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the rebirth of Final Fantasy XIV, this collaborative series of whiskies expresses the three cities where the adventure began with the taste of whisky. Ul’dah, the City of Sand, is a trading city-state that dominates a desolate desert area. The city is a bustling place, full of entertainment facilities such as pits and amusement centers, where Narzal, the god of commerce with two sides, is worshipped as the patron god. The image of the intermingling of different cultures brought in through trade is expressed with the complexity and depth created by the blend of wine and sherry barrel alcohol. The “jewel” symbol of Ul’dah’s wealth, which is also depicted on the national flag, was used to accent the sparkling sherry cask-aged blended whiskey.Reference: Nagahama Romantic Beer to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of “Final Fantasy XIV” on Isetan Mitsukoshi’s online site from September 28, 2023 (Thu) – Nagahama Romantic Beer

[Whisky Concept]
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the rebirth of Final Fantasy XIV, this collaborative series of whiskeys expresses the three cities where the adventure began with the taste of whiskey. The forest city of “Gridania” is a rural city-state that dominates a dense forested area. The national motto is determined by the oracle of the spirit by three young prophets, with Nofika, the goddess of fertility, as the patron goddess. Numerous canals run through the city, and the deep forests nurtured by the abundance of water are expressed with the scent of barrel-derived wood that reminds one of taking a bath in a forest. Various plants and trees growing wild everywhere are expressed with the smoky flavor of Nagahama Distillery’s original distillate and Islay Quarter’s original cask. It is a whisky with a leafy flavor that makes you feel as if you are lost in a forest.

[Whisky Concept]
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the rebirth of Final Fantasy XIV, this collaborative series of whiskeys expresses the three cities where the adventure began with the taste of whiskey. The city of the sea, Limsa Lominsa, is a maritime city-state that dominates the Lanosia region of the vast island of Vilebrand in the sea. The city, which worships Limrain, the goddess of navigation, as its patron goddess, has countless islets, iron bridges over reefs, and whitewashed houses that form the cityscape. The key malt is a peat-type spirit that evokes the image of the sea and sea breeze. The accent is on rum cask-aged whisky, reminiscent of the pirates who have long had roots in the nearby seas. The long-aged grain whisky accentuates the backbone, resulting in a sweet, mellow whiskey with a soft scent of sea breeze.

About Nagahama Distillery
Nagahama Distillery, one of the smallest distilleries in Japan, is located in the northern part of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture and has both a craft beer brewery and a restaurant. Few distilleries, including major whiskey distilleries, have their own restaurants, and craft whisky distilleries are very rare.
The unique shape of the pot stills installed in the distillery reminds us of the very origin of whisky making.
Nagahama Distillery was originally a rice warehouse from the Edo period (1603-1868), and began making beer in 1996. Later, in 2016, facilities for whisky production were installed. The building has a vaulted ceiling, with a saccharification tank and distiller on the first floor, and a grinder and fermentation tank on the second floor.
There are two pot stills for first distillation and one for redistillation, and the heating system is an alambic type pot still shaped like an indirect steam gourd, a pot still often used for distilling brandy. Among Japanese craft distilleries, Nagahama Distillery is the only one currently using this alambic type pot still. The advantage of this distillery is that it produces a clear, soft liquor with less cloying taste.
Trial and error has been repeated between the establishment of the distillery and the present. Major changes include a change in the malt crush ratio and a change in fermentation time, which was initially 60 hours but has now been increased to 72 hours. Also, the number of distillers was increased from two to three. When the distillery was founded, the first distillation vessel had a capacity of 1,000 liters and the redistillation vessel had a capacity of 500 liters, but the redistillation vessel was also replaced, and all three distillation vessels are now 1,000 liters. Also, following the example of Scottish distilleries, the redistillation kettles are rarely cleaned. We have made many changes in the approximately four years since our founding, including the following.
